In the UK there are 1.5 million people with learning disabilities. Brandon Trust supports approximately 1,500 of these individuals, each one unique with their own story. What they share in common is a ‘learning disability’.
Brandon Trust does not believe people are ‘handicapped’; Brandon recognises that there are many types of ‘learning disability’. The cause can vary, but it always affects organic brain functioning, it is not a mental illness. Whatever the particular syndrome, a learning disability will be a continual, ever-present condition. As an independent charity Brandon Trust believe that although this is the case, with the right kind of support people can experience a positive and rewarding life.
