JULIE PLANT: LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

I have been working in Learning Disability services since 1987, initially training as a nurse at Stoke Park in Bristol. I found the work both challenging and rewarding and knew that I had made the right decision. I worked as a Care Home Manager for seven years enjoying the opportunity to support people with Learning Disabilities as well as the staff at the home.

During this time I realised I have a passion for staff development and training and as a result took a leap into the world of employee development by becoming and NVQ Assessor and Verifier. Through this I was able to follow my aspirations to try my hand at training, which I really enjoyed. Since then I have gained a Futher Adult Education Certificate and put Brandon Trust forward for accreditation as an assessment centre with City and Guilds which has meant the NVQ activity has grown tremendously.

I now work alongside my colleague Louise Baker having responsibility for the management and delivery of all aspects of employee development. I am also a qualified British Sign Language interpreter and use this both within the Trust and privately for other organisations and individuals.
