BUILDING OUR FUTURES
RESIDENTIAL SUMMER CAMP

Summer Camp Football

The "Building our Futures" summer camp was launched for young people with learning disabilities across the South West region.
This was a jointly organised project between Brandon Trust transitions teams, young people and their families.

Incorporating the new fully accessible dormitory facilities at Goblin Coombe environment centre.

Young people from three local authorities came along to the weeks residential experience. The focus of the week was to listen, engage and support the active and emotional well being of young adults between the ages of 13-25.
Transitions teams funded some young people to attend the camp as an alternative for summer respite. Some people used a direct payment and some families used a combination of local authority and self finance options.

The week was a fantastic success. The Futures Camp team was made up of teaching staff from educational services and community team day service workers, all of whom worked extremely hard to ensure a high quality experience for all the young people attending.

The Camp offered a wide range of activities to support and promote confidence through personal achievement.

Feedback was overwhelming in its support of the Camp from both young people and their families.

Staff feedback ranged from...

"The most exciting thing I have ever been involved in" to...

"You couldn’t pay for that sort of training. I’ve learnt so much. Thanks please can I come on the next one"
