ELM TREE NURSERY
Elm Tree Nursery is running courses on two subjects this year. The NVQ horticulture level 1 on the nursery site and the NPTC conservation level 2 at Eastville Park.
The NVQ is a natural progression from the NPTC in two ways, one being the subject and the other is the development of the student. The NVQ gives the student the authority to determine the pace of their progress and, within the confines of their place of work, the units they wish to gain. |
The skill of monitoring their course is a huge leap from the directional NPTC but one which, when mastered, will be invaluable in the work place. The emphasis is on the student using their initiative to interact with the supervisor.
The conservation courses run at Eastville Park raise awareness of the natural surroundings and how appreciation and interaction can benefit humans and nature at the same time.
Both courses are aimed towards students moving onto jobs or higher level courses. Not all will stay with this subject but we aim to instil an appreciation of plants and nature which will stay with them and at least provide a satisfying relaxation pursuit.
THE BINDWEED CHALLENGE
We were invaded by....
![]() | The weather conditions were perfect for the bindweed invasion. It covered the hedge, fences, compost heap and spare ground. Its thick milky white roots were creeping underground whilst the stems leaves and flowers mocked us from every corner. The students and staff have continuously worked to beat it. |
