'THE LATE 20TH CENTURY HERALDED THE EVER GROWING VOICE OF THE CONSUMER... THIS CULTURAL SHIFT HAS HAD NO LESSER AN EFFECT ON THE VIEWS OF FAMILIES AND THEIR CHILDREN CONCERNING THEIR EXPECTATION OF FUTURE SERVICES AND SUPPORT.'

FAMILIES AND CARERS
Brandon Trust win the Accolades Award
for Involvement of Carers
Brandon Trust believes that family carers have an increasing role to play in the way services operate. For some time, with the growing move to rightly place people with learning disabilities at the centre of planning, there has been a corresponding tendency to marginalise families to a place where it became difficult for them to get their own voice heard. We believe this is something that we at Brandon Trust can address; we want to encourage families and carers to engage with us about how we shape future support structures. In order to make this happen Brandon Trust has a number of local based initiatives involving families and carers. Contact us for additional information about what is going on near you.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US
In all the recent development of new services within Brandon Trust we have deliberately sort to involve families and carers in the process. In our view it is essential that we not only take into account the hopes and aspirations of carers but that we also seek to build on their unique experience and expertise. In doing so we do not lessen our direct commitment to people with learning disabilities and their right to control over their own lives, however we acknowledge that family carers also bring invaluable insights into the way support is made available to people in the community.
What you can expect from us is:
- Opportunities to take part in the consultation processes in relation to new services.
- People who will listen to your views on a wide variety of topics related to our work.
- That our training programmes take account of the carers' perspective.
- Invitations to take part in Brandon Trust events such as our annual conference.
- Access to individual staff who have responsibility for the day to day support programmes involving your relatives.
