'WE NEED STAFF WHO ARE SKILLED, MOTIVATED AND DELIVER OUTCOMES. YOU CANNOT EXPECT PEOPLE TO DO THAT UNLESS THEIR EMPLOYER CONTINUALLY INVESTS IN THEM. BRANDON'S TRAINING PROGRAMME IS NATIONALLY RECOGNISED AS BEING FIRST CLASS; WE DO IT THAT WAY BECAUSE WE WANT UNIQUE FUTURES FOR THE PEOPLE WE SUPPORT.'

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Training is about using a planned process of learning experiences to enable people to enhance their contribution to their place of work, improving individual and organisational performance. At Brandon Trust we want people to develop to their full potential. That statement is absolutely critical for the people who we support. However, if such a statement is to be truly meaningful it must also translate into creative opportunities for those people who work at Brandon Trust. We place a strong value on our workforce and believe this is reflected in the way they respond to the needs of the people who use our service. Being able to learn and develop yourself in the work place is one of the essential elements to enabling people to really make a difference.
Training is key. We place an emphasis on being able to offer a wide range of quality face to face training to people who work at Brandon Trust. However, we are increasingly finding that other organisations and individuals also want to make use of Brandon Trust as a training provider. People recognise that Brandon Trust offers the opportunity to take that leap forward between great new theories and an empowering practice which makes practical sense on a day to day basis. Whether it is statutory training, such as our NVQ programme (Levels 2 & 3), or one of our own one day Courses designed specifically to respond to contemporary issues, Brandon Trust offers the opportunity to get the training you require.

Examples of one day Training Courses available through Brandon Trust:
- PERSON-CENTRED PLANNING (Facilitator Training)
This three day course, with two additional days practically planning, aims to provide participants with all the initial skills they require to facilitate person centred plans. You will work with people on actual plans and be able to call on the key 'tools' used in this process - PATH, MAPS and ELP. - PERSON-CENTRED PLANNING (Introduction)
This one day course acts as an introduction to PATH, MAPS and ELP. It unpicks the essential differences of these three methods and aims to give people confidence to move forward with a person centred approach in supporting people. - SHARING THE CHALLENGE
An introductory course that enables people to explore and re-assess their thinking about why people can present challenging behaviour. - PUTTING PEN TO PAPER - An introduction to report writing
A very practical course that will enable people who support others to gain basic recording and writing skills (related directly to their work experience). - MAKATON - Basic, Advanced, Symbols
A non-verbal method of communicating with people with learning disabilities. These are separate, one-day courses that, if taken over a period of a year, will enable participants to build up their skills and become effective communicators. - UNDERSTANDING ABUSE & UNDERSTANDING COMMUNICATION
Two separate one-day courses which are directly mapped to the Learning Disability Awards Framework foundation units (3 & 4 respectively). This training is crucial for people who are new to this area of work and are engaged in the second part of the national induction programme. - GROUP DYNAMICS - 'How people (sometimes) behave in groups'
An initial look at inter-group processes using group dynamics. Experimental, sometimes challenging, usually fun, open to anyone with an enquiring mind. Why DO we do the things we do? - WAYS OF INVOLVING PEOPLE WE SUPPORT IN RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION
This course focuses on appropriate and fair ways of involving people in recruitment for the services they need. We examine formal and informal processes and creative solutions. The course usually involves people we support who have been active in recruiting the staff they need.
COURSE AVAILABILITY
Any of these one-day courses are available using Brandon Trust trainers. They can either be staged at a venue of your choice or at our own training facilities. Moreover, you can commission courses tailored to your own operational requirements - we'll design these to your specifications. We are also in a position to offer Assessment and Verification of NVQ 2 & 3 in Care and the Induction & Foundation units of the Learning Disability Awards Framework.
In addition to those specialist areas detailed above, Brandon Trust promotes a much larger range of courses (e.g. Race Awareness, Mental Health & Learning Disability, Assertiveness Training, Recruitment & Selection, Understanding Epilepsy). Places are available to individuals and groups and can be booked through our Training Department.
