JOB PROFILES

SARAH THORNELL: HOME MANAGER

'My name is Sarah Thornell. I have been working for the Brandon Trust for 7 years now. In that time I have worked in various settings, supporting people who challenge the service, supporting people who are very independent and also supporting people with profound and complex disabilities.

I enjoy the work I do for Brandon as we put people first. Also I have had lots of opportunities to develop my career; currently I manage a home where 14 people live.

When I first joined the organisation I wasn't sure which setting would suit my personality, but due to how many people the Trust supports, I could work in numerous settings until I felt it was right for me. Also I have great opportunities for training and development. I feel valued and motivated to work where I am and support the people who I support.'

STEPHEN PALIN: HOME SUPPORT WORKER

'My name is Stephen Palin and I began working for Brandon Trust in April 2003. At the age of 21 I joined the RAF and served for 9 years. Then I worked for 17 years as a test engineer for a local Aerospace company. After taking redundancy in 1999, I considered a new career within the Care Sector as a complete change. I have taken a large drop in salary but this has been easily compensated by the nature of the work I do.

Working at Brandon is very varied and it is satisfying to be able to help people. I get involved in all sorts of day-to-day things from preparing meals and assisting people with their personal care to supporting them to visit their family and day services. Brandon offers NVQ training and provide full support to achieve this. As a result, my annual salary will increase substantially and there is plenty of opportunity for career progression. It is well worth the career move.'
