Horticultural worker jobs at Grounds & Gardens

Ride-on mowerPay: £5.60 and £7.50 per hour (depending on your age)

Where: You can either work in Bristol (Elm Tree Farm, Stapleton) and or in Weston-super-Mare (Winterstoke Road)

Days: Between 2 and 5 days a week (Monday to Friday)

Hours: 8.30am–3.30pm. You will be paid for 5 of these hours. 2 hours are allocated to training on how to do the job and to other work skills.

Brandon Trust is looking to hire some new horticultural workers for our Grounds & Gardens service.

It is a supported employment job for people with learning disabilities, which means you will have support to do the job.

Supported employment at Grounds & Gardens
What is Grounds & Gardens?

Grounds & Gardens do gardening and grounds maintenance work for people and businesses.

They employ people with learning disabilities.

What is the job?

You will be part of the Grounds & Gardens team and help them do their work.

This means doing things like:

  • Using lawn mowers to cut grass
  • Trimming hedges
  • Clearing leaves away from paths using a leaf blower
  • Painting lines on sports pitches
  • Mending fences
  • Picking up litter
  • Getting rid of weeds

Each day, you'll go out in a van with the team to visit different customers.

When can I do the job?
  • You will need to work at least two days a week.
  • You can work up to five days a week.
  • Grounds & Gardens work from Monday to Friday.
  • Each day you will work from 8.30am to 3.30pm. You will be paid for 5 of these hours.
How much will I be paid?

If you are aged 18-21, you will be paid £5.60 per hour.

If you are over 21, you will be paid £7.50 per hour.

You will be paid for 5 hours of work a day.

What type of people does Grounds & Gardens want to hire?

  • You are able to get funding for your support at Grounds & Gardens. You can get funding from your local authority, Access to Work or direct payments.
  • You like working outside in all types of weather.
  • You like working with machines and tools, like lawn mowers. We will give you training on how to safely use the machines.
  • You like being part of a team.
  • You like learning new things.
  • You get to work on time.
  • You can get yourself to and from work. This will either be to our Bristol site (Elm Tree Farm, Stapleton) or our Weston-super-Mare site (Winterstoke Road).

What training will I receive?
  • We will give you training on how to do the job.

3. If we think you might be the right person for the job, we will contact you and invite you to a job interview.

If we don't think you are the right person for the job, we will also contact you and tell you this.

4. The interview will last about 20 minutes. At the interview, we will ask you some questions, and you will have the chance to ask us some questions.

5. If you do well at the interview we will invite you to do four days of work at Grounds & Gardens, without pay.

This will help us to decide if you are the right person for the job.

It will also help you decide if you like the job.

6. After the four days of work, if we think you've done well we will offer you a job.

If we offer you a job, you will also need to make sure that you have funding for your support at Grounds & Gardens.

Once you have funding, we will agree a date when you can start work. We will also have to do some checks - an occupational health check and a DBS check.

An occupation health check means we will check if you are fit and healthy to do the job, or if you need any adjustments to be made.

A DBS check is to see if you have ever committed any crimes which are on record.
