Making ourselves heard - a report from Brandon Voices

Brandon Voices 2018

On Saturday, people we support, representing all areas of Brandon, came together to speak with staff, directors, and trustees at our annual Brandon Voices event. It was part of our ongoing mission to put the people we support at the heart of how we work. We know that their voices should be front and centre as we grow and develop our services.

The event capped off a series that began in autumn last year, where people had the chance to get together and talk about the things that were important to them.

These events were organised and led by our regional Members' Boards, made up of people with learning disabilities and autism from all areas of Brandon.

At the event on Saturday, findings from these regional events were then presented to Brandon’s board and management so they can be used to shape how we work in future.

We heard how people we support have been organising events helping people to stay safe, discussing how they can make better social connections, and talking about how Brandon can make its use of language more accessible.

There were also discussions about the challenges Brandon has faced over the past year, what this has meant for the people we support, and how we can overcome these challenges moving forwards.

Our new Involvement Coordinator, Emma, is now going to be building the findings from Voices, along with our annual customer survey, into an action plan for the whole organisation that will respond directly to the aspirations of the people we support.
