Playlink play scheme's hope for a spooktastic boost
School holidays mean more than just a break for the young people we support. Children and teenagers who spend time at our Playlink scheme spend each holiday meeting up with old friends and making new ones, whilst taking part in lots of fun activities. The most recent play schemes took place across Bristol during the October half-term, just in time for Halloween.
One of the most popular activities was pumpkin carving. Each youngster carved a frightening face, ready to take home to spook their families, friends, and neighbours. Don't worry though, they could make up for the fright afterwards with the delicious Halloween-themed rice crispy cakes they made!
Frightastic fun at action-packed schemes
The play schemes are aimed at young people aged 5-18 years, so activities need to suit everyone. As well as arranging fun things for children to do, the teenage workshops have lots of interesting activities that are age-appropriate. This half-term, the teenage workshop was Movie Day at the Armadillo. They had a choice of activities in the morning, plus a scary movie in the afternoon.
Each school holiday, the play schemes entertain around 200 children and teenagers, except for Christmas, when there's a Christmas party instead! They give young people with a learning disability or autism, a chance to make friends and join in with lots of fun activities and trips, whilst giving parents and carers a well-earned break.
Help boost the fun while you shop
Caron Hale from Playlink said: "The schemes offer a huge range of activities and trips, but they couldn't go on without the support of the community. We're currently fundraising for the play schemes via the Tesco Bags of Help scheme, at their Thornbury store, to take the children to LEGOLAND at Easter or in the May half-term."
Last year, Playlink won £4,000 through Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme, which helped them run a series of exciting trips, including the theatre, adventure parks, and the Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio Tour in London. If you’re in or near Thornbury in November or December, stop by Tesco and vote for Playlink play schemes to help make the LEGOLAND trip possible.
