Roll up, roll up for circus-themed fun
The end of August saw Hampstead Road opening their doors to the public for a circus-themed fun day. The fundraiser took place on Friday, 31 August and was a huge success, raising a crowd pleasing £234.
Peter Nicholls, from our fundraising team, has a special message:
“Thanks to staff and tenants for all the effort they put into making this such a terrific event – BBQ, prize tombola, a chance to get soaked by wet sponges in a set of stocks, all accompanied by beautiful weather and fantastic singer, Shannon Kitchen who competed on BBC’s The Voice.”
With their creative thinking hats firmly on, staff planned a whole day of inclusive activities, to entertain the people we support, their friends, and families. Bunting decorated the garden, as staff went out of their way to welcome visitors and make the event special for everyone who came.
Residents, visitors, and staff all played games, munched tasty barbecued treats, and took a chance on the tombola. They were especially impressed with a performance by Shannon Kitchen, an 18 year old singer who competed on BBC’s The Voice. Having spent the last year performing for the elderly as well as people with a disability, her voice became the soundtrack to the day.
What was it all in aid of?
As part of their Lives Well Lived project, staff are striving to help the people we support get out and about even more. Funds raised on the day will be going towards a new house vehicle, which will help them all enjoy new and exciting experiences.
The project also sees staff tapping into their inner designer to create unique homely spaces, where each room has a different theme. Showing off the people we support’s quirks, interests, and favourite things is important, though not without its challenges.
With a wide range of support needs to care for the people living at Hampstead Road, staff are working to make sure the space is useable and safe without losing the individuality of the people who live there.
The team aims to share what they’ve found works well with other homes and inspire change to traditional residential support services.
Led by Damian Stephens, one of our dedicated locality managers with a real passion for social care, Lives Well Lived started as a 12-month project to enhance the physical environment and the service provided at Hampstead Road. He's quick to tell us all about how the staff have honed their creative skills and brought the project to life with some fantastic ideas. Watch this space for more exciting developments yet to come.
