The Roving Reporters at Weston Grand Pier
Friday 27 February 2015
We’re the 'Roving Reporters’, from @Worle, North Somerset. We’re a group of people with learning disabilities who attend various community events as budding reporters. This all forms part of our continued learning, and the skills we develop are really valuable. Hopefully one day these skills will help us to get paid jobs.
We love nothing more than reporting on a positive story and this week, with our notepads and cameras at the ready, we visited Brandon Trust’s Celebration Day for the greater Bristol area, held at Weston Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare.
It was so nice to see all of the great things Brandon achieved throughout North Somerset, Somerset, Bristol, BANES and South Gloucestershire. It was buzzing. We mingled and talked to the crowd, taking a few notes and some photos. The photo shows Adam jotting down a few key points.
What we saw was a fabulous display of stories and achievements, both collective and individual. They were all so memorable and it was great to see them shared with the local community too. Well, this is what it's all about, not just promoting independence, choice and empowerment but watching all of those things materialise into living proof with these success stories.
Reports from students who attended the celebration day included comments about what a fantastic day they'd had, and that they enjoyed seeing the different stories and meeting different people, many of whom featured in the displays.
To top it all, part of the visit included complimentary passes to all of the fun rides on the pier which this was a great end to our day.
It was a great social event attended by families, carers, staff from across the area, commissioners, the general public and most importantly, many of the people Brandon support. We feel proud to be part of something so special.
