Team Shop in full swing
Brandon Trust shop #2 is finally open and it's fabulous (even if I do say so myself). It's a joy and a relief to finally open the doors and have the public respond so positively with their kind words and perhaps more importantly, their fantastic donations and purchases.
Charlotte, Lou, Gemma and I - 'Team Shop' - were first allowed access to the hollow shell on the Monday before Christmas. It seemed like a gargantuan task to sort through the piles of wonderful donations, scaffolding, and a few bits of retro furniture, and create a shop in a matter of days. Luckily, we had some wonderful volunteers to help out as well as plenty of good old-fashioned elbow grease and hard graft.
The moment that really stood out was when a customer, on our bustling first Saturday, danced around the shop picking up all manner of beautiful things, piling them up on the counter. As Charlotte and I rang everything through, the total was creeping up towards £100 so we took a moment to let her know how grateful we were for the money and how it's going to support a fantastic cause. She stopped in her tracks, welled up a bit and said she was very happy to support such a fantastic organisation.
It turned out that she'd worked with people with learning disabilities for years and Brandon's approach really struck a chord with her. She also said she was happy to be spending her money in a lovely shop on some beautiful things! It was amazing to see somebody appreciate the whole experience, and engage with the charity by having a wonderful time in the shop.
