The calm after the Christmas storm

Brandon Trust Charity ShopHow was Christmas for you? I hope you had a wonderful day and celebrated in fine style. It’s a lovely time of the year to get together with friends and family, so I hope you’re feeling very spoiled. The few days after Christmas Day can sometimes be a wonderful bit of calm after the storm and you may find yourself, like me, reflecting on the year gone and what is to come in 2015.

It’s certainly been a busy year for Brandon Trust as we turned the grand age of 20. There have been plenty of celebrations and events marking our birthday, and there are more still to come in the first few months of the New Year.

One thing I’m really looking forward to in 2015 is the opening of Brandon’s first official charity shop. We’ll be trialling up to three shops in Bristol and spending the next few weeks preparing to start this new venture for the charity.

We think there are lots of potential benefits for Brandon, including raising our profile, generating new income to help boost services, and providing opportunities for people we support to gain valuable workplace training and increase community connections, something we highlighted in our recent report ‘Finding Freedom’.

If the shops prove to be successful, we hope that there will be the opportunity to open many more in other locations where Brandon works. Watch this space!

So, as you look at the wonderful presents you’ve received this year (perhaps a Christmas jumper or two!) and are thinking about a New Year clear out, spare a thought for Brandon’s new charity shops; we’d really welcome your donations. They’ll help make 2015 another great year for Brandon and the people we support.
