Play schemes

We run play schemes in the school holidays (summer, Easter, and half terms in February and October). Sessions are held in Yate, Bradley Stoke, and Staple Hill. As part of this, we organise day trips to places such as Noah’s Ark zoo farm and Puxton Park.

Teenage workshops

During school holidays, we also run teenage workshops, offering age-appropriate activities for young people aged 13 and over. Activities include bowling, mini golf, cinema, and specialised workshops that help teenagers to learn and grow.

Buddy scheme

Our buddy scheme helps children with disabilities to access mainstream clubs and activities. This scheme offers 1 to 1 support. We have helped children to join groups such as Scouts and Brownies and then supported them to access mainstream activities such as swimming, golf lessons, and young drivers school.

Forest skills

In 2023, we started providing forest skills sessions at Grow Wilder in Frenchay.

These sessions give children the opportunity to spend time in nature and have sensory experiences that can be the preferred learning style for SEN children. Activities on offer include fire lighting, campfire cooking, games, crafts, woodwork, tool work, and exploration amongst a range of fun and engaging activities led by a trained level 3 forest skills leader. Forest skills sessions are proven to be good for health and wellbeing and are a great way to spend time outdoors.

Summer camp

Each year, we support 20 young people aged 14 to 19, to attend a week-long activity camp. The camp offers the chance to have new experiences, be challenged with different activities, gain confidence and independence, and make new friends.

The youngsters get to take part in activities such as climbing, abseiling, kayaking, horse riding, and zip wire.

  • He just seemed to really enjoy it... He made two insect houses and started a camp fire... So yes, definitely things he likes to do.

  • He was the best at hiding and good at catching newts! He also made jam - which he brought home and was very tasty.
