Brandon Trust is a member of the Bristol Hate Crime and Discrimination Service, which supports victims of hate crime and discrimination whilst also offering a conflict and resolution service. The partnership also provides training.

What is a hate crime?

Hate crime is motivated by prejudice against a person because of their:

  • Ethnicity or race
  • Disability
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity
  • Religion or beliefs
  • Age

What can hate crime be?

  • A physical attack like hitting
  • Name calling or bad gestures
  • Threats, harassment, or intimidation
  • Damage to property
  • Nasty letters, emails, texts, phone calls, social media messages etc.

Brandon Trust deals with disability hate crime and mate crime, as an aspect of disability hate crime – where someone with a learning disability is befriended for exploitation – and provides essential training on this subject.

Training and awareness raising

Brandon delivers interactive training using drama. Three actors with learning disabilities or who are autistic, are employed for this work. We deliver training for professionals and 1:1 assertiveness training for people who are at risk of exploitation.
