Brandon teams win Great British Care Awards

St Petrocs team holding their award

In late 2018, teams from across Brandon were shortlisted as finalists for the regional Great British Care Awards. We're thrilled that two of our finalists were crowned winners in their categories. The awards celebrate excellence in social care, and our finalists had all achieved something extra special. Whether that was challenges they’ve worked together to overcome, their innovation in the social care sector, or their passion for the support they provide.

The team at St Petrocs, in Cornwall, won the South West Care Team Award for Supported Living. Their team leader, Sharon Willetts, reflected on how proud she is of their achievement:

“We’re so pleased to have won! The team thrives on overcoming the challenges that support workers are faced with each day. No two days are ever the same. We strive to do our best to give each person we support the tools needed to live their life to the fullest.”

Tammy at the awards eveningTammy Perchard leads a team that provides support to someone with complex needs in Gloucester. When her name was announced as the winner of the West Midlands Putting People First Award, she was overwhelmed:

“I was utterly shocked that I won, I did not believe for a minute that I had done anything significant enough to warrant such an award. It is absolutely amazing to have the fantastic work the team has done, and the journey the gentleman we support has travelled, recognised like this.

“We have supported this person to move and settle into his own home after seven years of living in a hospital. He has now built meaningful and trusting relationships with staff and appears more happy and comfortable in his own skin.”

Congratulations to Sharon, Tammy and their teams on a fantastic achievement! They’ll now go through to the Great British Care Awards national finals in March, 2019. Regardless of the outcome, all our teams are winners and do incredible work to support people to live how they choose.
