Bringing the pub home for special lockdown birthday

A young man we support in North Somerset celebrated his birthday in style despite the lockdown, thanks to the dedication of his support team and the generosity of the local community.

Staff posted appeals for help on their personal social media pages and people were quick to respond. Based in Easton, Bristol, The Plough Inn got in touch with an offer of bar towels and pint glasses, and Coates House in Nailsea - was keen to help with a loan of glasses, rubber bar mats, bottle openers, and beer mats.

Another of Joe's big passions is cake, and no birthday is complete without one. Responding to the plea, Scott Nicholls from Headley Park, jumped at the chance to help. As a special surprise, Scott based the design on Joe's beloved football team, Leicester City.

Support staff, Chloe, Karen, and Adam discreetly arranged to get everything to the house. On the big day, with Joe kept busy elsewhere, they transformed the house into the Wareham Arms – complete with pub sign!

With the makeover finished, Joe’s birthday surprise was revealed. He was absolutely thrilled and wasted no time in getting the party started!

"I had a hot pizza, beers and snacks. It was the best party ever. I liked the pub because it was so cool having a bar with beer and blue WKD. I loved my cake!"

"We’re so grateful for the community’s support in making Joe’s birthday extra special. Big thanks to Scott the baker, the team at The Plough, and James and Alastair from Coates House, for their time and kindness. Despite the difficult times we’re all experiencing, the community spirit shines brightly."
