Showstopping Brandon Bake Offs!

Some seriously delicious cake (and baking talent) was on the menu last week with not just one, but two Brandon Bake Off events!

On Friday…Saint Stephen’s Cafe

Brandon's enterprising Bake Off winners

Saint Stephen’s café, one of our social enterprises, held its annual bake-off competition in the peaceful grounds of its city centre venue. Entrants were all trainees or supported employees of our cafés, which meant there was a professionally high standard to all the bakes. The judges huddled in their tasting tent found themselves with a very difficult job (although no-one heard them complaining!).

In the end, three winners were decided, with Louise taking the top spot. Last year’s winner Hanza, who’d been too busy to take part this time, was there to graciously hand over the crown. The event capped off a week of participation in Bristol Food Connections week, during which the café had been offering delicious cream teas to participants in the city-wide food festival.

Runner-up and café supported employee Katie said: “It’s an opportunity for everyone to bring out their creative side. It’s a great way to get together and everyone really enjoys it.

On Saturday…the Clifton Club

A colourful morning at the Clifton Club

Creativity was also clearly in evidence the following day, as Bristol’s Clifton Club held a bake-off competition to raise funds for us. With the showstopper category theme being ‘’Rainbows’, there was no shortage of colour either!

Staff and members showed some fantastic skills, with the star baker prize being awarded to the club’s events manager Sarah for her ingenious Rubik’s cube cake.

Guests attending the morning event made generous donations in return for the opportunity to enjoy the cakes, as well as making the most of the opportunity to browse and buy beautiful, bright ceramics made by our social enterprise Banwell Pottery.

The Bake Off was part of a year of fundraising activities for Brandon, during which the club is aiming to raise £30,000 towards our young people’s summer camps.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in both of these fantastic events!

If they’ve inspired you to hold your own fundraiser for us, why not find out more about how you can get involved?
