The weeding fairies work their magic in the market garden

Last month, a team of energetic volunteers from Morgan McKinley, a professional recruitment consultancy in Bristol, headed to our social enterprise, Elm Tree Farm, to help the market garden team. Read Sadie's blog to find out why they volunteered with us and how they got on.

Volunteers from Morgan McKinley help out at Elm Tree Farm"As part of Morgan McKinley's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we're eligible for two volunteering days a year. After a meeting with Selonge, Head of Finance at Brandon Trust, I asked if Brandon had enterprises that would welcome volunteers. She put me in touch with Elm Tree Farm.

"I live close to Windmill Hill City Farm and know how important the place is to so many people, and the work they do is invaluable within the local community. I think that's why Elm Tree Farm resonated with me.

"Having the opportunity to do some of the jobs that Brandon staff like Claire and Gaby simply don't have the time to do, but jobs that make a difference or set things up for them to then take forward, is exactly what these volunteering days are for. With that in mind, we were a team of five weeding fairies for the day - we came, we weeded a huge patch in the market garden, and we fed the weeds to some very grateful hens.

"We left with a sense of appreciation for exactly where the Farm originated from and the opportunities it gives to people in the community. We were also lucky enough to have a tour of the Farm, understand their exciting future plans, and we even got to pick some of the veggies grown there to take home for ourselves. We also had a chance to get to know some of the other Farm volunteers and visitors. We received a warm welcome from the outset and it was a fantastic project to have been part of for a day. I hope you'll have us back next year!"
