In October, the Brandon Adventurers came together in Bristol for a really exciting day of exploration and discovery. With expert guidance from Cordis Bright, we spent the day finding out what research is, exploring what it means, how it works, and what kind of research we want to do ourselves.

Learning about different types of research

Lucy, Angela, and Katie from Cordis Bright, made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. They were patient, friendly, and full of energy. They’d put together an amazing, accessible presentation that everyone was able to understand and join in with.

Together, we learned about the different types of research, and it was explained in a way that made sense. We talked about what we are good at, what we are interested in, and had lots of great conversations about our skills and ideas. One thing that really surprised us was how much work went into research, and how long it takes! There is a lot more to it than most of us realised.

Ideas to explore in the future

After learning the basics, we started thinking about what kind of research we would like to be part of. We were thinking of things like housing, employment, health and care, education and training. Everyone really appreciated being asked what mattered to them. It felt good to have our voices heard and the group came up with some incredible ideas that we hope to explore in the future.

We all left feeling so positive. It was great working with the Cordis Bright team. They were fun, kind, and genuinely interested in what we had to say. We’re really excited about what’s next. We can’t wait to continue learning, start our own research, and talk to lots of people about things that are important to us.

Connection and partnership

The day we had in Bristol was full of fun, learning, and connection. We discovered lots about research and also things about each other. Some of us travelled quite the distance to be there, but it was worth every mile.

We feel inspired and we can’t wait to see where this partnership takes us next!
