Brandon Adventurer Janis has won a prestigious social care award at a glittering gala event in London.
The Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care (WAGS) awards were held in December at the London Hilton hotel and were hosted by celebrity Kerry Katona.
Janis won The Social Care Superwoman Award (Learning Disabilities) for her co-production work with the Adventurers, including training prescribing students at the University of the West of England and co-presenting at social care sector conferences with Brandon Chief Executive, Helen England.
“I felt proud”
Janis said: “To win the award I had to work hard and show that I am thinking of how we can help people in the best way possible.
“When I found out I had won out of 11 other people I thought, ‘Oh my, I have won!’
“I felt proud to have won and very happy, as I didn’t think I would win but I did win. I thought all of my hard work has paid off.
“The awards evening was very special people looked very posh and smart so it was good fun and very exciting. I had an amazing time.”
Recognition for significant accomplishment
The awards categories recognise accomplishments at all levels of leadership and from across the whole of the social care sector; including services for older people, people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people and children, young people and families.
Janis’ Adventurers colleagues said of her win: “If you haven’t met Janis yet then we recommend you do. She is brave. She is funny. She is kind. And she has that rare magic where people can’t help but listen when she speaks.
“We never know exactly what she is going to say – but what we do know is that whatever she says will stop people in their tracks. It will make them think. And it will make them feel differently.
“That’s the heart of real co-production. Not paperwork or processes or predictability. People like Janis who speak truth, who cut through the noise, who change the room just by being in it.
“Janis – you are a force. And we are all so proud of you. You deserve this.”
