Celebrating creativity for Brandon’s 30th birthday

Posted: 26 February 2025

In celebration of our 30th birthday, we are sharing creative works from people across Brandon.

Teenager artist with Down's syndrome

Exploring the theme ‘What does support mean to me?’, autistic people, people with a learning disability, and support staff across Brandon, share their creative talents. From painting to pottery, to drawings and window dressings, take a look at the different ways people express what support means to them.

Zion House, Cornwall

Collage of brightly coloured quilling in the shape of a hot air balloon with a basket containing peg dolls

Our entry from Zion House in Cornwall was a very rewarding one for us as a team, and the lovely ladies that we support.

All joining together around a table in our hub, allowed us all to use precious time to come together and as well as learn a new craft, quilling.

It was an opportunity to take stock and reenergise, very therapeutic.

A hot air balloon symbolises the team transporting those we support to a place where they can be free to enjoy and live a happy fulfilled life.

Bernard, Oxfordshire

A collage of mixed media, featuring a clock at the centre surrounded by things Bernard likes to do with his day

Bernard uses the clock to plan his day, he likes to know what time he will be going out and when he has his cigarettes.

Bernard enjoys going to garden centres to buy flowers for his garden and enjoys going out daily for a cake and coffee.

Darren, Cornwall

What does support mean to me? It means being able to learn a new skill of using a pottery wheel.

Saskia, supported volunteer, charity shop

I enjoy making the mannequin with Jack. I had good fun and could express myself and help say how I wanted it to be dressed up.

It’s nice company and I like to be part of the community. I enjoy being on the till and being in close contact with the customers.

Marie, Oxfordshire

Collage of mixed materials depicting flowers and butterflies

Marie uses sensory as her way of communicating. She likes a tranquil environment.

Marie has a sensory garden where she surrounded by scented flowers, wind chimes and a water fountain.

I like how I can show my hobbies like football, through my displays.

This was one of my favourite to do.

Lenny, Oxfordshire

mixed media collage of L's favourite things including shells and fish

Lenny enjoys being outdoors, spending time at the beach, music and dancing.

Lenny’s diet is a big part of his support and he enjoys being included in the preparation and cooking of his meals.

Peter, Gloucestershire

Colourful painting by numbers of a wolf

Peter loved doing this painting by numbers picture of a wolf, taking great pride in choosing the different colours and matching them to the numbers on the picture.

Rich, charity shop employee

My confidence to pick clothes for mannequins and to display my work has grown because of the support I have received at Brandon.

I really enjoy my job, working with the managers and getting to know our customers is brilliant.

Steve, Gloucestershire

A landscape painting by numbers depicting a house with reflections on a lake

Having my support worker makes the day go quickly. She helps me with things. I would feel lonely if nobody came to see me.

Sam, charity shop employee

I like hanging and steaming clothes and using the till.

I’ve liked learning about money handling.
