Mike is a shop assistant at one of Brandon’s charity shops in Bristol. With the support and encouragement of his colleagues, he has really thrived in the retail environment.
Mike had a dream of flying in a hot air balloon. When Mike talked about his dream, it wasn’t just an exciting idea – it was a connection to his family history. Years ago, Mike’s grandfather took to the skies in a hot air balloon, and ever since, Mike hoped he might one day follow in his footsteps.
Thanks to Brandon Trust’s Live Free Fund, this long‑held dream has now become a reality.
A day filled with joy and new confidence
After a long time waiting for the right weather conditions, the moment arrived on a beautifully sunny morning in April. Supported by shop manager, Kate, and assistant manager, Rafailia, Mike finally took off and into the skies over Bath.
Mike was happy to share his feelings about the experience:
“My hot air balloon ride was fun and it was really fun meeting everyone who was riding with us on the balloon ride and meeting the pilot who was in charge of the hot air balloon. The landing was soft and the wind was so slow, it felt like we weren’t moving.
It meant the whole world to me and getting over my fear of heights and now I’m not afraid of heights anymore… I would love to go up in a hot air balloon in the future!”
For Rafailia, the experience was just as meaningful:
“It was a unique and beautiful experience, and I am very happy I got the chance to share it with Kate and Mike. Seeing Mike’s big smile was precious. I am very grateful for getting the chance to be part of this amazing experience.”
