Executive Leadership Team

Our Executive Leadership Team is a small group of passionate, expert individuals. Based at our head office in Bristol, they work together across all aspects of the organisation.

The management of Brandon's overall operations is the responsibility of our Chief Executive, Sue Porto, who reports directly to the Board of Trustees.

  • Sue Porto Chief Executive

    Sue joined Brandon in July 2018. She brings an outstanding track record of leadership in the charity and public sectors, having held Chief Executive roles at St John’s Foundation in Bath and national children’s literacy charity Beanstalk. Prior to that, she held senior positions at The Prince’s Trust and Prison Service.

    Our work aligns closely with Sue’s desire to help individuals achieve all that they wish for in life. She is committed to enabling an inclusive, purpose-driven culture that underpins every aspect of our work, ensuring the people we support are able to live the lives they choose.

  • Tanya Abbott Director of Operations

    Tanya joined Brandon 25 years ago as a support worker and her subsequent progress through the organisation allows her to bring a hugely valuable depth of understanding and experience to her current role. Over the last five years, her expertise has been focussed on the quality of support that we provide. Her work to enable all staff to be leaders in quality has played a critical role in the achievement of our current, above average CQC ratings.

    Tanya is a passionate champion of the people we support, ensuring that their voices, needs and wishes are at the heart of all we do.

  • Ben McGinn

    Ben McGinn Director of Finance

    Ben joined Brandon in July 2019. He brings with him a wealth of experience as a Finance Director in a number of private equity-backed companies. He has considerable experience in the field of support for people with learning disabilities. In a past role he was the Finance Director of the Robinia Group PLC, a large private sector learning disability care provider.

    Ben has a real passion for enabling people to live the life they choose, in the manner they wish to live it, and he’s delighted to have the opportunity to help make this happen.

  • Gareth Thomas

    Gareth Thomas Director of People and Organisational Development

    Gareth joined Brandon in June 2019. Over the past 20 years, Gareth has held many leadership positions within HR and Change Management. Previously, Gareth spent five years as the HR Director for Arriva Trains Wales, following 11 years with Royal Mail Group leading transformation efforts within HR and Technology.

    Gareth is values driven and passionate about creating a sense of purpose for people at work, enabling staff with the tools, capability, and leadership to deliver to the very best of their ability.

  • Mark Ebden Chief Technology Officer

    Mark joined Brandon in June 2020. Over the last 20 years, Mark has held a variety of leadership roles across the Technology operations and consulting landscape including Chief Architect, Practice Director & CIO/COO with companies such as Serco, HPE, General Motors and Eduserv.

    Mark has a strong belief in developing people and allowing them to choose their own path. He’s values and outcome driven, and believes that technology can play a role as an enabler.

  • Jo Wild Head of Communications & Marketing

    Jo joined Brandon in late 2016. After beginning her career in marketing agencies, she has spent the last twelve years in the third sector. Jo has held senior communications roles in both health and education charities, successfully leading activity ranging from major digital development through to the planning and delivery of strategic internal communications.

    Jo is committed to ensuring that representative, accessible communications play an active role in improving equality for the people we support.
