Sophie gets her dream job

Sophie recently finished her time at college and her dream was to get a job in a café and become a waitress. She has been working with the Community Connect team on travel training and finding a placement in a café.

Sophie had a trial shift at a local café earlier this month and did some practice on the till and watered the plants in the café garden. At the end of the trial, she was given the good news that she had been successful and has secured herself a placement on a Monday each week. 

Practice makes perfect

"I am so excited," says Sophie. "It was my dream to become a waitress in a café and today my dream came true! I have been practising all my skills at home and what I learned at college, I am so happy.”

“Sophie has been so keen to increase her independence and learn new skills to help her with her dreams," adds locality manager, Kirstie. "She has been working really hard on her cooking skills, cleaning skills and her money management to help her with all aspects of the café role. Sophie is now inviting all the staff for coffee at the café so she can serve them and show off her skills!”
