Arts and sustainable hub sparks new life into Bristol shopping centre

A new and exciting venture is coming to the centre of Bristol! If you remember the old Marks & Spencer in Broadmead, well, after a few months of hard work, the space has been converted into a new Arts and Sustainable Hub and Brandon is thrilled to be involved.

Fashion, plants, food, and gifts

Inside a Brandon charity shop. Poster states: Sustainable fashion is the futureAn impressive ‘front garden’ designed by Bristol Natural History Consortium will welcome you to the SPARKS pop up shop. Inside, you’ll find spaces filled with fashion, plants, food, gifts and plenty more.

There will be a wellbeing pod as well as repair workshops where you will be able to share your sewing skills. Bristol City Council will be exploring greener travel within the city, and Global Goals Centre will be offering interactive workshops and more features that contribute to sustainable living.

Each department will offer a wide range of creative products such as lovingly handmade and eco-friendly beauty products, jewellery and crafts. The food and drink area will be curated by MILA stores and will showcase a variety of produce made in and around Bristol. We all know that the closer to home we source our food and drink, the healthier it is for our local community and wellbeing.

Brandon pop up

Clothemod aka Meg, hand selects clothes in a Brandon charity shopSo, how is Brandon getting involved? Well, our charity shops have been offered a pop up space within the shopping emporium of this inspiring hub. Our Cotham Hill charity shop is taking the lead and has hand selected a collection that will be showcased throughout the week. The range will include funky vintage clothing, pre-loved designer clothing, trendy accessories, and a selection of items made by our Fired Up Ceramics and Banwell Pottery social enterprises.

We are excited to be working alongside other sustainable fashion brands such as Clothemod and Wear My Wardrobe Out, and we are very proud to be representing Brandon as part of an ever growing sustainable lifestyle in Bristol.

Launch weekend

The launch weekend will include a series of street theatre performances from Invisible Circus’ First Weekend of Wonder. Our first pop up begins on the day of the grand opening of SPARKS – Saturday 13 May – and continues until Sunday 21 May.

SPARKS will be an ongoing project and we have also secured two additional slots later in the year (September and November), so keep an eye on the Brandon Trust shops Instagram page for more updates.
