Vintage shopping evening at Cotham Hill charity shop

Sustainable Fashion Week logoAnother September is upon us, which can only mean Sustainable Fashion Week (SFW) – something that’s close to my heart.

As the Earth calls for our help, there isn’t a better time to start thinking about what you can do to help save our planet. Continuing to buy second hand and pre-loved should be everyone’s priority and here in our Brandon charity shops we provide the best quality selection for you to choose from.

This year’s SFW sees many events happening in and around the UK for SFW, mainly in Bristol, that include swap shops, vintage markets, sewing workshops and other exciting classes, and pop ups.

On Saturday 17 September, our Cotham Hill charity shop is staying open late (from 4.00pm to 7.30pm) for a vintage shopping evening. This time, we’re featuring Bristol-based DJ Lilac and a one-off discount on the night in exchange for your donations (only available at this event).

The power to change the world

“As consumers, we have so much power to change the world by just being careful in what we buy.” Emma Watson

This quote really sums it up. According to Savvy AF, being careful with what we buy, by opting for second hand, and by not choosing fast fashion, we can:

  • Lower emissions produced by the fashion industry worldwide (which currently stands at 10%)
  • Minimise waste (clothing can take 6 months to 80 years to break down in landfill)
  • Extend the longevity of clothing (apparently clothing is thrown away after just seven wears!)
  • Support small independent businesses (encouraging a much healthier retail environment)
  • Contribute to charity instead of large profitable companies

Second Hand September

Let’s also not forget #secondhandseptember – the popular campaign by Oxfam that challenges folk to only buy second hand for the entire month of September. Have you tried this? If not, what are you waiting for?

There are so many ways to achieve the challenge. Shop at charity shops, vintage markets, antiques fairs, car boots and jumble sales. One of the most exciting parts of shopping second hand is that you begin to develop your own style, nothing like anyone else. You forget trends even exist and get lost in the world of treasure hunting, which I must say, is the most exciting fun!

Late evening vintage shopping at Cotham Hill charity shopSo, what better time to hold a vintage shopping evening? At our evening event at 2 Cotham Hill in Bristol, we’ll be offering a selection of wonderful, handpicked items including clothing such as 1980s Laura Ashley, 1990s Nike and Adidas, plenty of bohemian styles and a whole lot more.

Our friendly staff will be on hand to help you with any styling advice and information about sustainable fashion. To make the experience even more special, we are delighted to have Lilac, a Bristol-based DJ, gracing our shop floor for the evening!

We are also offering a discount to anyone who brings in a bag of donations. Please note: The discount can only be used between 4.00pm - 7.30pm on the day of event at the Cotham Hill shop.

There are so many ways that we can make positive changes, so please swing by to our event and enjoy some well-deserved sustainable shopping. Not only will you be helping the planet and your pocket, but you’ll also be supporting people with learning disabilities and autism to live the lives they choose.
